Born, 1975, Sydney, Australia

Pick. Pour. Peel and Polish up. I use thick, wet, malleable resin and pigments, fibreglass, and stratum as sculpting material - I call the process “peeling”.

More than just castings, peelings are both additive and subtractive at the same time, physically lifting rich layers of urban and industrial environments. I see the works as collaborations between myself and the urban environment; although I plan my compositions, I am always surprised when I “peel” the works to see what the site holds onto, and what it lets go of.

As a child of the 80s I loved playing in vacant and forbidden industrial sites. My affinity for these spaces only grew as I threw myself into Sydney’s early 90’s rave culture. While most people overlook these derelict spaces, they continue to hold a special place in my heart. There is so much character in the decayed urban geometry, abstract textures and fascinating compositional beauty of these and other forgotten spaces.
